Begin The Tour

Getting started in XploreGEO is easy as 1 - 2 - 3!

  • The following page is a demo where you will pretend you are the attendee of a museum.
  • Follow the steps below on your device to go on this self-guided journey into the world of XploreGEO!
  • While entering the museum attendees will be encouraged to play XploreGEO, by signage and museum staff. 
  • The first step is to download and install the XploreGEO (if not already installed).
Step 1
Scan the QR code appropriate to your device, Apple or Android, to install the XploreGEO app.

NOTE: This demo requires QR code scanning. For best results, open the demo on a separate device then the mobile device you’re using to install the XploreGEO app on.

Open the XploreGEO App, and REGISTER or LOGIN!

Step 2
  • Open XploreGEO App on your device.
  • Swipe left, to view game Information.
  • Keep swiping left until you get to the end..
  • Tap "Get Started" at any time to proceed.
  • REGISTER or LOGIN to XploreGEO

Accessing the Private Museum Quest

Each Institution has its own private quest that can only be accessed by a special QR codes.

Step 3
  • Minimize the XploreGEO app..
  • Open your device's camera, or QR scan app.
  • Scan the private quest access QR code.
  • This will open XploreGEO to the museum quest.
NOTE: If XploreGEO does not open to the museum quest, try scanning the QR code a second time.

Joining The Private Museum Quest

Once you are at the private museum quest page, you can read the quest description, and look at the list of markers you can visit while at the museum. When you are ready you can click the green “JOIN THE QUEST” button at the bottom of the page.

Step 4
  • Read the quest description by tapping VIEW MORE button.
  • Scroll down and read through the list of markers to learn more about stops you will explore in the museum.
  • Click the green JOIN button to join the quest and begin your journey.

    NOTE: You are now ready to go Xplore the museum! You do not need to do the markers in any particular order.

Marker Order: When building the quest for your institution the markers can be left to the default setting and the players can check-in at the markers in any order. Their are functions in the app that will allow the markers to be set to a certain order in the case of a puzzle type quest.

Multiple Quests: Most institutions will have one main quest that is a tour of their location. And as the need arises they might have special quest for temporary or traveling exhibits, and special events.

Time To Explore The Museum

Step into the virtual shoes of a museum explorer without leaving your seat! Imagine yourself wandering through the NC Natural Science Museum, eyes peeled for the hidden gems: QR codes adorned with vivid green Xs, akin to treasures waiting to be discovered. But fear not, for in this special demo, all these elusive QR codes have been relocated to this very webpage. Each code represents an exhibit within the museum, waiting for you to unravel its mysteries. Simply scroll down, check-in at each marker using the corresponding QR code, and embark on your digital expedition through the wonders of science.

Step 5
  • Explore the museum.
  • Find the quest markers in the museum.
  • Read the exhibit signage to learn information that will help you answer the challenge questions.
  • Tap "NEC 1st FL - Coastal North Carolina - Jawless Hagfish" to open the Marker.
  • Tap the green check-in button at the bottom of the marker page, and scan the code below.
  • Once checked in return to the Jawless Hagfish marker in the XploreGEO app.

NOTE: Challenges can not be accessed until after you have checked in at the marker.

Extend Your Lead Via Challenges

Once you are checked in to a marker in the XploreGEO app, it’s time to up your game by finishing the challenges. There are many types of challenges that can be added to a marker, in this demo we have “review”, “photo”, “question” challenges on each marker and one marker has a “receipt” challenge.

Step 6
  • With the "NEC 1st FL - Coastal North Carolina - Jawless Hagfish marker open in the app.
  • Tap and open the first challenge, in this case it is a "review challenge" .
  • Review the marker via the star rating.
  • Tap on the selfie challenge. Upload a photo of yourself with the marker (for this demo, a selfie of just you will suffice). Remember, points for a photo challenge will only be awarded after it's approved.
  • Continue on and complete the two question challenges for the first marker..

  • Q2: D - To gain leverage while they eat.

  • Your welcome to play as many markers as you wish.

  • XploreGEO can also be used for public quest, click the map button in the app, and zoom in and out to explore any quest that may be in your area to play.
