Our cross-country road trip took an exciting turn when my friend and I found ourselves in Dothan, Alabama, purely by chance. We were just exploring with no particular destination in mind, enjoying the freedom of the open road. Little did we know, we were about to stumble upon something truly unique: a town full of peanut statues that would inspire a new quest for our XploreGEO app.
Peanuts Everywhere
As we drove into Dothan, we started seeing these funny peanut statues everywhere. At first, we thought it was a strange coincidence, but after spotting the fourth peanut, we decided to investigate. A quick search on our phones revealed that Dothan is known as the “Peanut Capital of the World.” Intrigued, we drove to the visitor center, but it was closed. Luckily, we found a paper map outside listing all 77 peanut statues in town.
Excited by our discovery, we set off to find as many peanut statues as we could before continuing our journey. Each statue had its own unique design and character, reflecting the creativity of the people in Dothan. We managed to see about ten of them, and it was so much fun that we wished we had more time to see the rest.
The Charm of Dothan
Dothan is more than just the Peanut Capital; it’s a town full of history and charm. Founded in the late 1800s, it has grown into an important agricultural hub, especially for peanuts. Every year, the town celebrates the National Peanut Festival, attracting visitors from all over.
As we explored, we also noticed beautiful murals on many buildings. These murals tell the story of Dothan’s past, present, and future, adding vibrant colors and life to the town.

Complete Challenges: Each statue has additional challenges you can complete for more points and coins. These could be trivia questions, photo challenges, or reviews.
Explore More: Move on to the next peanut statue and keep exploring. You can take your time and enjoy everything Dothan has to offer.
HINT: You can check-in at each marker in any order you like, you do not have to go in order.
