How To Play XploreGEO
Step 1: Install App | Login
🆕 New Players:
- Go to your device’s App Store by clicking the store icon.
- Download, and install the XploreGEO App.
- Open the app and read the intro training slides.
- Register and log in to dive into the adventure!
🔄 Returning Players:
- Open the XploreGEO app on your phone.
- Log in to continue your exploratory journey, If not logged in!
Step 2: Finding & Joining A Quest
Embark on a quest with XploreGEO using these simple steps.
📚 First a few definitions:
Quest: A collection of locations, ranging from local to international. It can be a city tour or a themed journey like ‘Harry Potter’ filming sites.
Markers: Each individual location within a quest. A quest is essentially a series of markers.
🌍 Finding a Quest:
- Click on the market icon in the lower left of the app.
- Use pinch and squeeze gestures on the map to explore different locations and find quest markers.
- Alternatively, click the list filter button in the upper right corner to switch to list view, showing markers near you.
👁️ Exploring a Marker:
- Tap a marker on the map or list to learn more about it.
- Read the details of the marker.
- Click the blue quest name on the marker page to view the entire quest and all its markers.
🎯 Joining a Quest:
- Once you find a quest you like, click the ‘Join’ button on the quest page.
- You’re now ready to start your adventure!
Step 3: Marker Check-In
Physical Travel to the Marker:
Begin by actually traveling to the marker’s location. This part is all about real-world exploration and adventure.
Opening the App & Selecting a Marker:
- Once near the marker, open the XploreGEO app.
- Head over to the main quest page. Here, you’ll see a list showing the markers.
- Tap on the marker you’re visiting to prepare for check-in.
Checking In:
- When close enough, the check-in button in the app will turn green, signaling that you’re ready to check in.
- NOTE: For some markers, proximity isn’t enough. some markers use a QR code to check-in..
Benefits of Checking In:
- Points: Each check-in earns you points, pushing you up the leaderboard.
- Coins: Collect coins with each check-in, which can be used for in-app features and rewards.
Additional Tips:
- Make sure your GPS is active for accurate location detection.
- Be patient in areas with weak signals.
- Notifications can be turned off in the app by tapping “Account > Three Dots Menu > Notification Settings”.
- Embrace the journey! Each marker is a doorway to new discoveries.
Step 4: Performing Marker Challenges
- Travel to and physically be at the marker for challenge access.
- Check-in at the marker (either distance-based or QR code).
- Challenges on the marker page activate after check-in.
- Tap on each challenge and follow the specific instructions provided.
- After completing a challenge, return to the marker page to select the next one.
- Earn points and coins for each challenge completed.
- Encounter various types and numbers of challenges at different markers.
- Opting to check in without doing challenges, or doing only some, results in missed opportunities for extra points and coins.

- Single answer question challenge.
- Multi-choice question challenge.
- Photo challenge.
- Video challenge.
- Receipt challenge.
- Review challenge.
- Blog challenge.
- Social share challenge.
To continue your quest in XploreGEO:
- Travel to the next marker after completing challenges at your current location.
- Check-in at the new marker to start fresh challenges.
- Complete the set challenges to earn rewards and progress in the quest.
- Repeat this process, traveling from marker to marker, checking in, and completing challenges, until you’ve successfully finished the quest.
